Records, not the vinyl type, are important in many aspects of life, therefore why would they not be important in the field of education. This domain of Danielson's Framework is emphasizing the importance of keeping records as well as maintaining the records. the records that are kept in education can be complex, yet they are crucial. To keep reading about the importance of records and how to keep them in a classroom, keep reading below!
What is Danielson's Domain 4B? This domain of Danielson's Framework is focusing on teachers keeping records of a variety of items. Without records, teachers could run into a variety of troubles with parents or even administration. Therefore, this domain explains some records of what the students bring in or actions that happen in outside of the classroom. This domain applies to lessons, money for pictures, and extra-curricular activities. When a teacher is organized in his or her records, the easier it could be for teachers to solve potential issues that could arise in the classroom. There are two different ways that records can be kept, one is electronically on an excel sheet or website. This allows for all of the students information to be quickly reached without the hassle of papers. The second way is by keeping a paper record. The papers would all be placed within the students folders. There is a chance that a paper could be misplaced or fall out of a folder, but this system also works. Why is Domain 4B important? When working in a classroom, it is important to make sure that all records are accurate. Without accurate records, there could be a miscommunication in lunch foods, and a student could potentially end up with food that they are allergic to. When reflecting on lessons, it is important to keep them all n one place so that when you go to use the same lesson, you can look over the review and make the necessary adjustments. Keeping on top of records allows for proper interaction between students, teachers, and parents as well as administration. Making sure that you statistics as well as information is up to date and accurate will help any parent-teacher conference run smoothly. What are the elements of Domain 4B? There are three different elements to Domain 4B which ensure that the records are kept properly and accurately. Each element is mentioned below along with a brief description of each.
Student Completion of Assignments
This element should be more of a focus at the secondary level, yet it is important that the teacher keep a record of all of the work that a student has completed. In addition to keeping the completed homework, there should also be a record of how well the student performed on that assignment.
Student Progress in Learning
Teachers need to know where there students are in their learning. Understanding where a student is in his or her learning could be done through formal or informal assessments. In either case, keeping record of where their students are is important to lesson planning.
Non-Instructional Records
This element entails any detail that is not related to school lessons. Keeping records of money for a field trip as well as school pictures is an example. There should be an emphasis on money because if that is lost and not properly kept, then the teacher could be at fault and an issue could potentially arise for the teacher.
How can Domain 4B be incorporated into the classroom? There are a few different ways that a teacher can use Domain 4B in the classroom but, as with the majority of Domain 4, it may not be visually seen when one walks into the classroom. I will only be mentioning two different ways that this element can be incorporated into the classroom, yet it you have any more suggestions, don't hesitate to contact me! The first way that Domain 4B can be incorporated into the classroom is by physically having a filing cabinet that is dedicated to the student's records. This cabinet should have a lock on it in order for teachers and only those chosen can access it. The sections of the cabinet should be labeled and divided by each student. There should be organized folders for specific slips and academic records. The cabinet could also be used as a shelf in the classroom, which allows for a less serious effect on the students when the drawers are opened or something similar. The second way that this domain could be incorporated into the classroom is to use an online website that records all of the students information. There are quite a few websites that can save all different types of students records, and one of them is Bloomz. Click on the button below to learn more information about this online tool, but it keeps track of student's behavior, attendance, and more. When there is a parent-teacher conference, this is an easy way to show parents exact records of the student. Having visuals for the parents can also provide a smoother conference. I am always looking for new ways to incorporate this domain into the classroom, therefore if you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to let me know!
